Through an independent psychologist, provider in our insurance, our 11-year-old son (5th grade) was diagnosed with DCD. Now, we are in the process of meeting the school district psychologist and team (teacher, head of special education, and Speech/Writing therapist.) for another round of their testing required by the district by law. They have 60 days to perform their own testing to discover if they agree with the diagnosis of the other doctor, and to test in more depth, more specific details of my son’s learning disorder to hopefully dictate an IEP (individual education plan) Hopefully, the results will qualify for services offered by the district. Otherwise, we’ll have to seek occupational therapy out of our own pocket.
Some of my blog posts will be dedicated to this journey of exploring and understanding our son’s learning disorder(s.) Maybe, our experience might help other parents. It’s our understanding when it comes to DCD, it’s not unusual to be combined with another disorder or several. Such as ADD or dyslexia, etc.

I have a learning disability from a long time ago. It’s been a challenge to learn one way but the teacher teaches another way. Life for me hasn’t always been easy.

Yes, it’s been a long struggle – he starts 8th grade next year and has an IEP (Individualized Education Program) – it takes a while for him to do things, but can do them.
